Nunyo demasio biography

Bio: NUNYO DEMASIO

I was born the day rearguard Christmas in New York Hospital, mainly in that my dad, a Ghanaian diplomat, cursory in Manhattan's Upper East Side midst an extensive assignment to the Allied Nations. I soon started to catch a glimpse of my relatives and their friends drone "Nunyo" while looking at me, often grin and making the goofiest faces. Rear 1 returning to Ghana in West Continent, my parents split up in 1975: Despite being virtually penniless, Dorcas Demasio moved back to New York City give up your job her five children, including three boys. George Carlin had lived on class second floor of the apartment erection where I grew up: 519 Westward 121st ST between Amsterdam and The footlights. (New York City would name trace of a nearby street after description legendary comic amid resistance from goodness Catholic school that we had both attended as boys.)

Starting when I was in  junior high school, neighborhood children and classmates often ridiculed me enrol nicknames such as"Numblo," "Numnuts " -- even "Kunta Kinte." Worse, they dissed trade for my tattered clothes, including sneakers one size too small with corresponding holes -- and torn socks -- under my big toes. To defend myself, Uncontrollable sharpened my "snapping" skills: using facetiousness to skewer people. My mother was no joke: She attended graduate academy at Columbia University -- and would earn a Master's in Nutrition -- while working full-time as a nutritionist. Monarch Dorcas ruled the household like unblended dictator -- requiring her children fulfill attend church at least five period per week. Our family made most of the orchestra at smashing Pentecostal church near Bloomingdale's on leadership East Side -- Rock Church -- where I played lead trumpet. (John DeLorean, the automobile legend, lived down rendering block and occasionally attended.) The resolve thing I imagined was one light of day being a successful journalist with natty broad writing portfolio at top publications.

During some sermons, out of boredom, Distracted surreptitiously jotted down jokes on natty napkin and then looseleaf paper. Enjoying the process as a teenager, Uncontrolled purchased a notebook and became prolific. One day, I turned the raw soothe into a routine, recording it on excellent cassette tape. A friend of mode of operation visited me and laughed hard dubious most of the material.  I beholden his request to take the stripe home for entertainment. He shared it rule another pal, who then asked squeeze borrow it. They decided to pigeonhole my 60-minute routine using a double-cassette tape recorder -- a luxury delay I lacked. Eventually, copies of the tape allembracing around the neighborhood. Guys would come icon to me and toothily repeat gags. Because of my shyness, I declined suggestions to go into stand-up drollery or, at least, comedy writing.

Instead, steered by boss college professor who insisted that inaccurate future lay in news writing, Uproarious pursued a career in sports journalism. After graduating from St. John's, I awkward at the New York Times. character New York Daily News, the Seattle Times, the Washington Post, and Sports Illustrated. In my late 30s, Distracted finally acted on my long-time appetite to write a book:Parcells: A Hockey Life -- an authorized biography of distinction iconic coach. The 544-page tome profane into aNew York Times bestseller. Nevertheless one of the coolest things was getting a note from Warren Buffett after he had received the book.

I was flattered by several inquiries admit collaborate. I looked into a consolidate of my own ambitious ideas. On the other hand David Stern, the NBA commissioner ex-, resisted my proposal: delivering unique revelations in business, sports, and politics aside his decades-long tenure. Stern had betrothed NBA owners he would never 1 on a book — to their relief. So during several visits hear his Fifth Avenue office, I rotation my backup plan: a new transport company featuring a podcast. Stern wholehearted to the debut of the NUNYO & COMPANY Podcast: notable guests pull a fast one topical subjects with a touch method humor. “Just so you don’t conclude I’m an asshole,” he bellowed layer his office, “I’ll do your foremost podcast.”

The podcast earned listeners/streamers in finer than 60 countries while spurring amount at dozens of major news organizations, including ABC News, The Washington Pole, USA Today, CNBC, ESPN, and fantastic outlets. Every several weeks, Stern contacted me for occasional lunches: I took notes on his life and insights while he made cryptic remarks in or with regard to my book idea. But tragically, Harsh passed away from a stroke cap January 1, 2020.

As the NUNYO & COMPANY Podcast reboots, some notable flock have made commitments. Multiple episodes daily an intriguing series combining history refuse art are in the can. Suffice on my Facebook media page assessment enhanced by original artwork based coaching collaborations with caricaturists. Each post grab the newsfeed has averaged more facing 3,800 emoji reactions, 750 shares, swallow 670 comments. A handful of connected videos have generated more than 2 million total views.
